Does anyone know who Tateahanhiyayewin was? I believe she was Louisa Hapans mother once married to Kangiduta. any idea what her english name might have been or a translation would help too.

The translation that we came up with was Coming on Top of a Cloud. This lady was our great-great-grandmother and her daughters name was Anna Hunka Williams. The information that we also found was that she may have been married to Ptewankannijin(Sacred Standing Buffalo). Please let me know if you have any other information. We found a probate record from Sisseton dated April 16, 1941. If that is of any help to you. Please let me know if you find any other information.

i have been waiting for someone to mention that name Tateahaniyayewin! she is also a relative of mine. My name is Alicia Hegland. I live in Bismarck right now, but am enrolled in the Spirit Lake Nation in Ft.Totten. After my mother Delima (Cavanaugh) Jackson passed away in Spetember '05, I have received probate records of my mothers and of many others including Louisa Hapan Redday, my great great grandmother. i also have Tateahaniyayewins probate papers dated aug 27 1914 from the S_W alottment records. what i know is she was Hapan's mother. Husband was Kangiduta( who signed the 1867 S-W Treaty. then he died, of what i don't know.) Tateahaniyayewin passed February21, 1911 at age 80. (do you know where she is buried..or Hapan for that matter?) After Kangiduta she married Mahpiyawakan aka Wasusnake(a)? Besides her daughter Hapan(louisa) was Sam Crow, Samuel Adams, and Mary Smith (Mazakoyakewin). THere was another daughter who died as an infant. Don't know if there were more childrend from her later marriage. For Tateahanhiyayewin's parents..as far as probate records are concerned...were Jane Iteskawin and Candina(sp?). I have more information on Kangiduta(his parents names) but i don't know anymore of it, and how to verify it. I also show that Hapan was a Wahpeton not a sisseton, but she married my g-g grandfather Albert (Abel or Manikiya)Redday who was Sisseton. Lemme know if i can be of more help. If you'd like my number, we can exchange more information. maybe we have each other's 'missing links' I am looking for more information on Louisa Hapan..marriage and baptism records. i know she died of an operation in browns valley, MN but can't find her gravesite. We think it may be in the Dumarce township area (her address in 1900). I haven't heard of the Anna Hunka Williams connection before, i am curious. ...i had to call the realty records office in Sisseton to get the names of Tateahaniyayewin's parents so i can't verify it on paper. also what do you got on Kangiduta? he is virtually nonexistent except on that treaty. please reply!!!! thanks a bunch! Hoped it helped

what i show on kangiduta is that he is listed on my family probate papers from his wife (which could have been one of a few i guess) Tateahaniyayewin, and listed as Louisa Hapan Redday's parents,. IT says he died in 1867. i wish i could give you more there. but happy to help, i have a ton of information that i just don't know where to go..but i'm excited to learn my family history!

oh, and thank you for keeping an eye for my ancestors, i have made some specail trips to sisseton, and have found afew graves at mayasan church, but not enough. i believe hapan may have been buried in mn becasue of the proximity top the doctor who treated her, rather than bring her all the way home, which was a tedious task i guess in the 1920's they may have just buried her there...dunno. but thanks!

WOW, This is great!!! would you guys (lisha818 & bmorin) email me what you have and I will do the same for you? frankbc@spiritlakenation.com. My wife and I are both enrolled members of the Spirit Lake Tribe and we live in Ft Totten, We also have good leads to 4 others that all may have ties to with family in Minn. right now researching. But we are still lacking any probates with Kangidutas name on it. He was alive in 1862, we have a copy of the original scouts list and he is #77 on that list. The list we have superseded the 1886 census so the Reddays were Mdewankaton loyalist before the got the name Redday (at least this is what all the family here believes). Anpetusa/Anpetuxa was the son of Kangiduta his english name was Albert/Abel Redday.
